NOTE: The Ohanapecosh Campground will be CLOSED for the summer of 2026 as part of the Ohanapecosh Campground rehabilitation project. Ohanapecosh Campground is tucked in the forest along the banks of the Ohanapecosh River at an elevation of 1,914 feet. It is located in the southeast corner of the park along State Route 123. Trails that begin at the campground lead to Silver Falls and the Grove of the Patriarchs. Stop by the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center for information and exhibits.

Reservations can be made online or by telephone 1-877-444-6777. Ohanapecosh campsites tend to open in mid to late May as weather allows. From opening until the end of June, all open sites are first-come, first-serve. For summer dates June 23, 2016, through early September reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance. Reservations are highly recommended as this campground is very popular.

Published camping fees

Campground Site Fee
$20 · A campsite can hold up to 2 tents and 6 people (unless immediate family) for one night.
Discounted Campground Site Fee
$10 · With an America the Beautiful Access or Senior Pass, the card holder can get a discounted rate for a campsite. A single campsite can have up to 2 tents and 6 people (unless immediate family) per night.
Group Site Fee
$60 · If you plan to use the group sites at Cougar Rock or Ohanapecosh campgrounds between Memorial Day weekend and Columbus Day, you must make reservations. Groups of 12 or more are permitted only in specific group sites. Group sites are designed for tent camping only so RVs are not permitted. At campgrounds throughout the park, parking is limited. Those using group campsites may need to consult the campground ranger to arrange additional parking. Maximum groups sizes vary by site.

Accessibility and facilities

The Loop D restrooms are accessible. Road and loops in campground are paved. Campsites tend to be gravel and hard packed dirt. The amphitheater has packed dirt aisles that slope down to the seating area.

Wifi may be available 17 miles away in the town of Packwood at some of the restaurants or cafes. Public wifi is available in the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise. The wifi has limited bandwidth and can be slow during times of high volume.

Cellular service is spotty at best, and varies with service provider. Please contact the cellular providers directly to ask for a coverage map.
fire Stove Policy
Wood fires are allowed in designated fire pits within the campground. Firewood is available for sale nightly during the summer. No collecting of dead or downed wood within the park.

Ohanapecosh Campground is located in a steep river valley on the side of Mount Rainier. The loops do include some sharp curves. No hook-ups are available. Loop E allows no generator use.

Source: National Park Service API for sites, facilities, campground locations and published fee entries; NPS Public Use Statistics for monthly recreation visits, 1979–2025. Snapshot retrieved 2026-10-03. 474 NPS site records include 62 national-park API records; Sequoia and Kings Canyon share one API record. These record counts are not the official count of individually designated parks. 392 API site records have matched visitation history, including the separately reported Sequoia and Kings Canyon visit totals combined for their shared API record. 665 campgrounds are included.

Complete monthly series reconcile with the source’s annual totals. Published annual totals remain available for years with partial monthly reporting. Four monthly entries contain negative accounting corrections. They remain in the archived data and annual totals, and are unavailable as ordinary monthly visit counts. Blank data is not zero. Recreation visits are visits, not unique people. Month as percent of annual peak = selected month visits ÷ largest monthly count that year × 100, requiring twelve nonnegative monthly values. This helps compare recorded seasonality; it is not a crowding forecast, reservation forecast, or present-condition report.

Activities and amenities reflect published NPS entries, rather than a guarantee of access on a particular day. Fees and pass categories are dated 2026-10-03; official site and reservation links provide current conditions and rules. Campground points are published NPS coordinates. Offshore sites can be viewed on the world extent. Broader public-land agencies are outside this reviewed NPS snapshot.
