Bonita Canyon Campground

Bonita Canyon Campground is a small, historic campground with many trees. It has 23 sites ALL by reservation only. The campground has flush toilets, running water, and picnic tables. No ground fires, hook ups, showers, or dump station. Vehicle length limit is 29 feet (dip in road damages longer vehicle). Read all info and regulations before booking on Recreation.gov Bring everything you need! Food, beverages, ice, charcoal, wood, fuel, and many camping supplies are not available at the park store.

All campsites are on the reservation system, recreation.gov. We recommend making reservations a few weeks in advance and as much as three months in advance during holidays and from January to April. Larger campsites often fill up early so tent campers may find last minute availability more frequently. The park does not offer any walk-in or first come first serve camping. If you arrive without a reservation you may be able to make a reservation using wi-fi at the visitor center. Dispersed camping without a reservation is available on Pinery Canyon Road (Forest Road 42) 6 miles outside the park.

Accessibility and facilities

wheelchair Access
The campground and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. There is a creek that divides the campground causing the paved road to dip with a steep grade. The creek is generally dry but can run after precipitation especially during summer monsoon.
internet Info
Visitor center Wi-Fi stays on overnight. It is often too slow to download maps, videos, or to make phone calls, but can be useful for receiving text messages or adjusting campground reservations.
cell Phone Info
Cell phones rarely work inside the park. Visitors should not depend on visitor center Wi-Fi for important communications. A 911 only phone is available in the campground.
fire Stove Policy
Fires are allowed in designated fire-rings/grills only. Gas stoves are allowed. Fire restrictions occasionally restrict all fires in the late spring and early summer.

rv Info
RV/Trailer must be under 29 feet to safely drive through the dip in the road. Many sites cannot accommodate RVs or trailers. If a site allows an RV or trailer but does not list it at the top of the page, the site may have low branches, not be level, or have a challenging layout. The driveway length may help you determine if your vehicle will fit in the site, but even large sites may have limiting factors. Please read the full description carefully before you select a site. Note that larger sites are often reserved farther in advance. The campground is often fully booked during holidays, in October, and from January to April.

SOURCES & DEFINITIONS

Know what the map counts.

Source: National Park Service API for sites, facilities, campground locations and published fee entries; NPS Public Use Statistics for monthly recreation visits, 1979–2025. Snapshot retrieved 2026-10-03. 474 NPS site records include 62 national-park API records; Sequoia and Kings Canyon share one API record. These record counts are not the official count of individually designated parks. 392 API site records have matched visitation history, including the separately reported Sequoia and Kings Canyon visit totals combined for their shared API record. 665 campgrounds are included.

Complete monthly series reconcile with the source’s annual totals. Published annual totals remain available for years with partial monthly reporting. Four monthly entries contain negative accounting corrections. They remain in the archived data and annual totals, and are unavailable as ordinary monthly visit counts. Blank data is not zero. Recreation visits are visits, not unique people. Month as percent of annual peak = selected month visits ÷ largest monthly count that year × 100, requiring twelve nonnegative monthly values. This helps compare recorded seasonality; it is not a crowding forecast, reservation forecast, or present-condition report.

Activities and amenities reflect published NPS entries, rather than a guarantee of access on a particular day. Fees and pass categories are dated 2026-10-03; official site and reservation links provide current conditions and rules. Campground points are published NPS coordinates. Offshore sites can be viewed on the world extent. Broader public-land agencies are outside this reviewed NPS snapshot.
