The campground is typically open May through August. Individual site reservations can be made up to one month in advance. Group sites are available up to four months in advance. All sites are reservation only. Sunset Campground is located 3 miles (5 km) from Kings Canyon Park entrance. It is located near Grant Grove Village in an open stand of evergreens. Services can be found in Grant Grove Village. A park amphitheater is located here and occasionally offers park programs.

Reservations for individual sites at Sunset Campground typically open in April and can be made up to one month in advance of your stay. Reservations for group campsites typically open in January and can be made up to four months in advance. All sites are reservation only.

$32 · This fee is valid for up to six people at a single tent or RV site per night.
Group Sites A & B
$60 · These group sites accommodate from 15 to 30 people. The fee is charged per night.
Access or Senior Pass Tent or RV Sites
$16 · Senior Passes or Access Passes provide a 50 percent discount on some amenity fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services. This does not apply to group campsites.

Accessibility and facilities

wheelchair Access
Paved routes lead to campground facilities, including accessible flush restrooms. Near Sunset Campground, this amphitheater is just south of Grant Grove Village on Highway 180. A wide, paved, gently-sloped route leads from an unmarked, paved parking lot to the amphitheater. The nearest accessible restrooms are located at the visitor center or near campsite 26. The amphitheater features backless benches with companion seating available at the ends. All seating is on a moderate slope.

fire Stove Policy
In summer, fire restrictions may be in effect if conditions are dry, even at higher-elevation campgrounds. When fire danger is very high, wood and charcoal fires (including campfires in fire rings and wood-burning stoves) may be prohibited. Check current fire restrictions online or at park bulletin boards before you camp.

Allowed, length varies by site. The campground has no hookups or dump stations. The nearest dump stations (summer only) are located at Dorst Creek Campground (when open) in Sequoia National Park, or Princess Campground (Hwy 180 at Hume Lake Junction) in Sequoia National Forest.

Complete monthly series reconcile with the source’s annual totals. Published annual totals remain available for years with partial monthly reporting. Four monthly entries contain negative accounting corrections. They remain in the archived data and annual totals, and are unavailable as ordinary monthly visit counts. Blank data is not zero. Recreation visits are visits, not unique people. Month as percent of annual peak = selected month visits ÷ largest monthly count that year × 100, requiring twelve nonnegative monthly values. This helps compare recorded seasonality; it is not a crowding forecast, reservation forecast, or present-condition report.

Activities and amenities reflect published NPS entries, rather than a guarantee of access on a particular day. Fees and pass categories are dated 2026-10-03; official site and reservation links provide current conditions and rules. Campground points are published NPS coordinates.
